The vast majority (83%) of the country’s reservoirs are water above 80%of the capacity, with almost all watersheds on the mainstream continent and 92%storage capacity.
In the third week of March, watershed storage is only lower than average (March between 1990/91 and 2023/24) in the Ave, Mira and Ribeiras do Barlavento basins.
According to data this Tuesday released on the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) page last week, marked by the Martinho Depression, all watersheds had an increase in storage volume. From March 17 to Tuesday there was an increase of 3.7%, equivalent to 493 cubic hectimeters (HM3).
With the rains that fell in March this Tuesday no dam is marked red, which means that there are no dam on the continent with less than 20%of capacity, and only one with less than 40%, the Monte da Rocha reservoir, in the Sado watershed, which is 37%.
At the end of January Monte da Rocha was 13% of his capacity, along with two other troubled reservoirs in terms of storage, both in the Algarve: Arade at 17% and 14% bravery.
Currently the Arade Dam is 59%, with a 39%rise in the last week, and the bravery at 56%, with a 12%increase.
Of the monitored reservoirs, specifies the APA weekly newsletter, five that are on Tuesday with a capacity between 51 and 60%, eight between 61 and 80%, and 66, the vast majority, with one capacity between 81 and 100%.
With the heavy rains of recent weeks the total volume of water storage on the continent is now 92%, 12,165 hm3, for a total capacity of 13,299 hm3.
In the framework of watersheds also stands out the storage at 99% in the Vouga basins and 97% of the Tagus basins. In the Tagus basin there are several completely full dams, the same happening in the Guadiana, whose basin is also 97% of capacity. Alqueva is 97%.
In the Douro Basin reached the limit the reservoirs of Alijó, Serra Serrada and Vilar Tabuaço, although the rest are also close to 100%, and in the Sado Basin there are also 100% reservoirs of capacity.
In the leventy Algarve, the borders of bunk and Odeleite are almost on the edge as well.
