Decision tries to clarify doubts of the murder in Cajamar; Family points contradictions in the testimony of suspect
The Civil Police will reconstitute the murder of Cajamar, the city of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The decision was made after the victim’s family pointed to contradictions in the testimony of Maicol Antonio Sales dos Santos, suspected of the murder. There is no date yet to perform the step by step of the crime.
On Saturday (22.mar.2025), family and friends of Vitória made a demonstration in front of the Cajamar Civil Police Station. They demanded a deeper investigation and highlighted inconsistencies in confession. Fábio Costa, a family lawyer, pointed to incongruities in the suspect’s statement, especially regarding the crime scene and the method used to hide the victim’s body.
Vitória Regina Sousa was 17 years old. She disappeared in late February. His body was found a week later, in early March. According to police, Maicol Antonio Sales dos Santos confessed to the crime. Investigators say he had acted as a stalker (which monitored and pursued the victim obsessively). But Vitória’s family lawyer disputes the details.
Costa mentioned discrepancies, such as Maicol’s allegation of murdering victory inside his car, without traces of blood in the vehicle. In addition, the statement that the body was buried on a terrain in Cajamar using a shovel and a hoe was challenged by the lawyer, who said there was no signs of land removed where the body was found.
Maicol’s defense claims that he was coerced to confess the crime. The defenders criticized the realization of a psychiatric expertise without court order, just one day after the alleged confession.
