The cardiologist and presenter of the CNN Vital SignsRoberto Kalil Filho, who has led President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s medical team for over 20 years, commented on Lula’s conditions to compete in the next elections.
According to, the president is able to compete in the elections in 2026 and, in case of victory, would be able to command the country for another term.
Lula’s doctor’s comments took place during an interview with TV Cultura’s Roda Viva program on Monday (24).
When asked about the president’s advanced age during the next elections, he commented on Lula’s current health situation.
“He has all the conditions to compete for an election, to hold office. The president is a healthy person who takes care of himself”

Lula’s head of the medical team was also asked about, two months after the fall in the bathroom of the palace of Alvorada.
“They had health problems, as we all have, but the latter was not a disease, it was an accident. This will not prevent him from any campaign or future government, if he is evidently reelected,” said Kalil.
The cardiologist also commented on the petista’s physical exercise routine, stating that he “never failed to exercise.” For Kalil, any citizen who has this care routine, the state of health is improved.
Lula turns 81 in October 27, 2026. If reelected, the president will leave the presidency of the Republic at the age of 85.
