The mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), said on Tuesday, 25, on his social networks that the opening of new markets for Brazil’s products “strengthens industry and economy.” The statement comes after the head of the Casa Baixa attended a meeting with members of the Brazilian Association of Export Industries (ABIEC) in Tokyo, Japan.

At the meeting, the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, and other members of the Brazilian entourage.

According to Fávaro, the chief executive has signed a personal commitment to work the opening of the beef market in Japan.

“The Japanese market still maintains restrictions on the purchase of beef in Brazil, one of the goals of the trip is to reverse the decision,” Motta wrote on platform X. “Still, today, the products we most export to Japan are poultry and pork,” said the deputy.

The mayor also said that opening new markets for Brazilian products strengthens industry and economy, remembering that in 2024, Brazil’s trade with Japan was $ 11 billion.
