Russia and Ukraine announce ceasefire in the Black Sea (and the US will help Moscow in one of its most important markets)

Communiqué comes the week when Ukrainian and Russian delegations were gathered (separately) with the United States in Arabia Saúdita

The United States announced on Tuesday that an agreement was reached with the Ukrainian and Russian delegations for a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Kiev and Moscow agreed that it was necessary to “ensure the safety of navigation”, as well as “eliminate the use of force and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea” after the agreement reached in 2022, with Turkey mediation, was compromised.

“The United States and Russia have agreed to ensure navigation safety, eliminate the use of strength and prevent the use of commercial ships for military purposes in the Black Sea,” reads the White House statement.

Minutes after the release of the findings of the meeting between the US and Russia, Ukraine, through the Defense Minister, made known that he agrees with the agreement. “Fulfilling the mission of the president of Ukraine, we continue to work to achieve fair peace and ensure the safety of our country. This meeting is a logical extension of successful consultations with the United States in Jeddah. No one wants a fair peace more than Ukrainians, and our position remains honest, transparent and coherent,” he reads in the publication of Rustem Umarov in X.

According to the statement issued by Washington, DC, through the conversations made this week, it was also possible to reach an agreement on measures that prohibit attacks on energy infrastructure in Russia and Ukraine.

“The United States and Russia have agreed to develop measures to apply the agreement by President Trump and President Putin to ban attacks on energy facilities in Russia and Ukraine,” says the White House.

This is a particular relief point, since Russia, there is a long time banished from international trade with large partners such as the West, is one of the leading fertilizer producers around the world.

The conclusions appear a day after Donald Trump’s delegation sent talks with Russia, and two days of negotiations with Ukraine in Riade, Saudi Arabia.

Communiqué from the White House about the conclusions of this week’s full negotiations:

  • The United States and Russia have agreed to ensure navigation safety, eliminate the use of force and prevent the use of commercial ships for military purposes in the Black Sea;
  • The United States will help restore Russia’s access to the world market for exports of agricultural products and fertilizers, reduce maritime insurance costs and improve access to ports and payment systems for these transactions;
  • The United States and Russia have agreed to develop measures to apply the agreement by President Trump and President Putin to ban attacks on energy facilities in Russia and Ukraine;
  • The United States and Russia congratulate the good offices of third countries to support the application of energy and maritime agreements;
  • The United States and Russia will continue to work to achieve lasting and lasting peace;
  • The United States reiterated the imperative of President Donald J. Trump that the killing on both sides of the Russian-Ukraine conflict must stop, as the step required to achieve a lasting peace agreement;
  • To this end, the United States will continue to facilitate negotiations between both parties to achieve peaceful resolution, in accordance with the agreements entered into in Riade;
  • The United States manifest its gratitude to heir prince Mohammed bin Salman for his leadership and hospitality by facilitating these important debates in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia once again.
