Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court (STF) began hearings that will decide whether former President Jair Bolsonaro, suspected of leading an alleged coup plan, will be tried in a lawsuit that can take him to prison.
Upon landing in Brasilia this Tuesday morning, before going to court, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said the charges that he is targeted are unfounded.
“We always hope for justice. The accusation is unfounded, the accusations were partially made by the Federal Police. I will now meet with the lawyers and then I will decide what to do.”
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) of Brazil began on Tuesday the hearings that will decide if former President Jair Bolsonaro, suspected of leading an alleged coup plan, vthen be tried in a case that can take you to prison.
Bolsonaro arrived shortly before the opening of the hearing and sat in the front row with his lawyer, facing the magistrates, going the five judges of the First Class of the Supreme Court to analyze if there are enough evidence against the former Brazilian president and decide whether to accept the accusations of the Prosecutor’s Office and start a criminal trial.
In addition to Bolsonaro, among the defendants are high-patent military personnel and former government ministers (2019-2022), considered the former president’s trusted men. The analysis of the STF accusations may take place in three sessions that will culminate on Wednesday afternoon.
