New Cycle Link Castro Marim to Praia Verde and reinforces sustainable mobility

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria de Graça Carvalho, will inaugurate, next Saturday, March 29, at 16:30, the Esteveira bike path, which will make the connection between the village of Castro Marim and the intersection of Praia Verde, passing through São Bartolomeu do Sul.

The new infrastructure extends along the 125-6 National Road, in an extension of about five kilometers, including, in its construction process, the full reopening of the entire road.

This is the second section of an integrated environmental sustainability project, promoted by the municipality of Castro Marim under the green triangle designation, which establishes cyclable connections between Vila Real de Santo António, Castro Marim and Praia Verde.

The bet on the creation of cyclable infrastructures is aligned with the municipality’s environmental and sustainability policies, which has developed decarbonization and energy efficiency initiatives. One of the most notable examples is solar lighting installed in the Lezíria bike path, the first section of the green triangle.

Castro Marim thus intends to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and mitigating the effects of climate change, encouraging more environmentally friendly mobility and promoting the use of bicycles as a means of sustainable transportation.

The construction of the Esteveira bike path represented an investment of over one million euros, within the scope of CRESC Algarve 2020, being co -financed 50% by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder), within the framework of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Action Plan (Pamus).

The municipality of Castro Marim thanks “the collaboration of several owners, contrasting to the isolated act of one, who promoted an embargo, who associated with the contractor’s delanga, delayed this work in two years”.

Waiting that “Delonga disorders are now forgotten by the bike path, which will have international echo.”

Soon, a new phase of this project will advance, with the construction of another bike path, which will make the connection between the Green and Height triangle, along the 24 de Junho Avenue, further reinforcing the municipality’s bet on sustainable mobility.
