Midfielder Neymar was summoned to the Brazilian team on March 6, but was suspended on the 14th of the same month because of a discomfort in the left thigh. The Santos player was left out of the match against Colombia and also does not face Argentina.
With the cut, Neymar is not even in the reserve bench. To occupy his place, coach Dorival Júnior called striker Endrick, who again has the opportunity in the national team. Neymar, in turn, has not entered the field for the national team since October 17, 2023.

How did Neymar’s injury happened?
Neymar suffered an edema on the back of the left thigh during Santos’ victory 2-0 over Red Bull Bragantino, in the quarterfinals of the Paulista Championship, on March 2. The player left the field 31 minutes of the second half, after falling on the lawn with pain and being replaced by Gabriel Veron.
After leaving, Neymar remained in the bench massaging his thigh. Even so, after the game, he gave an interview and talked about the expectation for the semifinal against Corinthians.
In the week before the semifinal, Neymar even participated in training on Wednesday and started the activity of Thursday, but again felt discomfort and left the field early. He was eventually spared his activities on Friday and Saturday.
Despite being related to the classic against Corinthians on Sunday (09/03), Neymar did not enter the field. He participated in the warm -up with the team before the game and made some embassies, but without forcing them. During the match, at no time was it called for warming.
Shirt 10 was also left out of a friendly against Coritiba on March 16, although he accompanied the team behind the scenes and talked to the press after the game. Neymar said he expected to be recovered for the debut in Brasileirão, against Vasco, on March 30:
– Yes, now, I’ll be 100%. It’s sad (selection cut) .. we talked to the selection doctor and the doctor of Santos, and decided that it would be best to focus on recovery to avoid a worsening in the injury, ”Neymar said.
What is the severity of Neymar’s injury?
Santos classified the problem as “muscle discomfort” and not as a serious injury. Muscle distension at the back of the thigh is common in athletes and occurs when the muscles are stretched beyond the limit, which can cause small ruptures and inflammation.
This injury is classified into three degrees:
-
Grau 1 – Light injury, with an estimated recovery between two and six weeks.
-
Grau 2 – Moderate injury, which may require four to eight weeks for healing.
-
Grau 3 – Severe injury, which may involve complete muscle rupture and demand up to 12 weeks for full recovery.
In the case of Neymar, the picture is treated as mild to moderate, which should allow its return to the lawns within weeks, provided that the recovery process evolves well
