The Parish Council of Quarteira reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability by installing a rainwater reuse system. This initiative aims to optimize the use of water resources and reduce the waste of drinking water, an essential investment for the Algarve region, which has faced periods of severe drought.
The new system allows you to store up to 40,000 liters of rainwater, distributed by two deposits, which will be used exclusively for non -potable purposes in the daily operations of the public space maintenance teams. The collected water will be applied to cleaning streets using the mechanical scanning, manual watering of plants without automatic system and washing vehicles and machines, ensuring more efficient management of this essential resource.
“The Algarve has faced significant challenges due to climate change and water scarcity, making it essential to adopt innovative and sustainable solutions,” says Telmo Pinto, president of the Quarteira Parish Council.
“With this system, we are making a real contribution to the sustainability of our parish and the use of rainwater allows us to significantly reduce drinking water consumption in daily services,” adds the mayor.
With this measure, reaffirms its bet on environmental preservation and the adoption of good natural resources management practices, promoting a more sustainable future for the community.
