Trump again says the US needs to “have” Greenland

The Republican said the US “has” to get the island to ensure protection in the region; Denmark refuses to give up the territory

United States President Donald Trump (Republican) again said on Wednesday (26.mar.2025) that the United States need to assume Greenland to “Ensure international security”.

“We need Greenland for international security and protection. We need it. I hate to put it that way, but we have to be with it.”the Republican said in an interview with journalist Vince Coglianese podcast on the Rumble platform in Brazil.

Greenland, despite belonging to Denmark, is an autonomous territory in a political and economic way. Since the first term, Trump insists that the US government must control the region. Denmark refuses to deliver the island and the local government itself says the island.

Trump’s interest in the territory is due to the high amount of ores and the strategic importance of the region, which is close to Russia.

The US leader’s statement came 1 day before the US Vice President Jd Vance (Republican) trip of the National Security Counselor Michael Waltz and the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, to the island. Trump said earlier that the visit would be an opportunity to learn more about the culture and the people of Greenland.

The US President has already stated that he would take control of other regions, such as an annexation, but did not maintain the speech in recent statements. The Republican, however, confirmed on Wednesday (26.mar) that still has plans to acquire Greenland.

The Danish authorities did not accept the Americans visit and the arrival of Vance with the US entourage, who was not invited to the territory.
