The President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco
“I don’t like when political scrutiny becomes popular judgment,” the president of the Assembly had said this week: “It’s dangerous.”
The President of the Assembly of the Republic refused The admission of the PS’s potestative request for the constitution of an inquiry committee on the fulfillment of prime minister.
The justification for this decision is that the Parliament was, however, dissolved.
The proposal of an eventual committee of parliamentary inquiry to compliance with Luís Montenegro of the rules applicable to the exercise of the prime minister was presented by the PS on the 10th. The following day, but presented by the government by the majority of PS deputies, Left Bloc, PCP, Livre and PAN, which determined the automatic resignation of the executive PSD/CDs led by Luís Montenegro.
In accordance with the order of the President of the Assembly of the Republic, “it is concluded that the supervening act of dissolution has structural internal effects that are reflected in the activity of the parliamentary body, namely in the functioning of parliamentary commissions, which do not remain in operation after the dissolution of the parliament”.
“Therefore, it is decided: Do not admit the application for a potestative constitution of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, presented by the PS; Not knowing the legality and constitutionality of the application, by uselessness ”, reads in the order signed by José Pedro Aguiar-Branco.
It is recalled that Aguiar-Branco has considered that the elections were avoidable and that there was no reason for the government to fall: The Prime Minister did not hide anythingsaid this week in an interview with Antena 1, the last as president of the Assembly.
“I don’t like when political scrutiny becomes popular judgment”he said, “It’s dangerous.”
“What I mean is that, in theory, and it is not just in this situation, we have been assisted too many times that it is sought by the use of figures that are mainly for scrutiny of a political nature to try to assess the legality or illegality of things [feita] Outside the space it should be, which is the space of the courts, ”he said.
Already on the controversial statement he recently uttered that PS Secretary-General Pedro Nuno Santos did more harm to democracy in six days than arrival president André Ventura, in six years, Aguiar-Branco framed it as “a political analysis in relation to a particular situation” that “was circumscribed to the party space” of the PSD National Council.
“I didn’t insult anyone, I made no accusations”he claimed. “This my thinking was not expressed at any time in my role as President of the Assembly of the Republic. In the case of the PS leader, I praised him for his state posture when he had it in relation to such important matters for the country as was the state budget for 2025, he pointed out.
However, from his perspective, “the responsibility that is associated with the PS is a greater responsibility.”
