The board of (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) declined the request of (National Union of Fuel and Lubricant Distributing Companies) to suspend, for 90 days, the biodiesel mix in diesel marketed in the posts.
The request had as its main argument that the measure would be essential to improve the sector’s supervision, which has faced fraud in the mixture of biodiesel in recent months, especially when the price of biofuel was significantly higher than the oil derivative.

On the other hand, the agency announced alternative measures to combat irregularities in the sector. From May 1st to December 31st, the marketing of biodiesel will be suspended between “Congencies”. In addition, the agency will disclose detailed data on the marketing of biodiesel, identifying distributors and producers responsible for each product flow.
The purpose of these actions is to improve studies to identify possible inadequate practices in the biodiesel market, as indicated by ANP.
During the meeting, director Fernando Moura, responsible for the report, justified the negative stating that the suspension of the mixture could increase Brazil’s external dependence on diesel. He also highlighted the agency’s continuous efforts to combat irregularities, despite the limitations faced.
“I understand that ANP’s efforts to combat the irregular market are more than evidenced, even with all the challenges and restrictions of the agency, well known throughout the market.”said Moura.
