Eleven days after the first confrontation of the Paulista Championship final, Corinthians and Palmeiras will duel again this Thursday (27), at 21h35, at Neo Chemistry Arena, in Itaquera, to define the champion of the 2025 edition of the State.
Faced with their fans, the alvinegra team will be in advantage. On the way, he won 1-0 with the goal scored by Yuri Alberto. The result allows home owners to play for a draw to keep the trophy.
The alviverde team needs to at least return defeat by the minimal difference to provoke penalties. In the case of a two -goal victory or more, they will win an unprecedented four -time championship.
In the professional era, no state club has achieved four consecutive achievements. To become the first, Palmeiras will need to repeat the effort they made to win the 2022, 2023 and 2024 editions, when they surpassed, respectively, São Paulo, Água Santa and Santos in the decisions. On all occasions, Abel Ferreira’s team lost the first leg and had to reverse the scoring on the way back.
There is, however, an important difference this year. It will be the first time the alviverde formation will not define the confrontation at home. Owner of the best general campaign of the championship, Corinthians carried this advantage until the decision.
After an irregular campaign in the first phase, Palmeiras almost was out of the knockout. He only managed to seal his classification in the last round. In the decisive phase, he packed and surpassed Sao Bernardo and Sao Paulo.
Before the final, the São Jorge Parque Club eliminated Mirassol and Santos, respectively, in the Wednesdays and in the semifinal until he found his biggest rival in the decision.
In addition to the possibility of adding the 31st Paulista Trophy to its gallery, Corinthians fight for a kind of rematch. Five years ago, the club had a chance to become the first four -time champion of the state, but was prevented precisely by Palmeiras, winner of the 2020 edition.
It wouldn’t be the first time the alvinegros would have this taste. In 2013, the Corinthian formation prevented Santos, then led by Neymar, from reaching the feat. Still packed by the achievements of the World Cup and Libertadores the previous year, Corinthians braked the serious Santos started with the 2010 trophy.
This time, more than spoiling a significant mark of a rival, the São Jorge Park Club knows that achievement means out of a uncomfortable fasting. In the 2020s, the team has not yet won any tournament. His last title was precisely Paulista, in 2019, who ended one of the happiest decades for the Corinthians.
The list of glory had Libertadores (2012), the Club World Cup (2012), three Brazilians (2011, 2015 and 2017), four state (2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019) and the South American Recopa (2013).
After that, the closest club came from an achievement was in 2022, when he was a finalist of the Brazilian Cup, but lost the decision to Flamengo on penalties.
In addition, he also lived difficult times, flirting with relegation in the Brazilian in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Palmeiras, in turn, lives a decade with more joy for their fans. Since 2020, he won the Brazilian Championship (2022 and 2023) twice, twice Libertadores (2020 and 2021), once the Brazil Cup (2020), once Recopa (2022) and Super Copa Rei (2023), and four times Paulista (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
