The Republican National Guard (GNR) has already signaled 7,192 land to be cleaned under the 2025 Forest Forest campaign, which aims to prevent forest fires, the authority told Lusa on Thursday.
The GNR Forest Forest Campaign started on February 1 and lasts until November 30, and from February 16 to April 30, the period for the signs of land for lack of fuel management will take place.
As for the expected dates for inspection actions, there is no calendar yet, “the joint order of government members responsible for protection areas is waiting,” added the Guard.
According to GNR temporary data provided to the Lusa Agency, between February 16 and March 20, in the 18 continental Portugal districts, 7,192 land has already been signaled.
Leiria is the district where the most land have already been signaled, with 1,878. Following Santarém, with 828, and Coimbra, with 610.
The three districts where, so far, fewer land have been referenced are Évora (18), Portalegre (26) and Porto (124).
As for the other districts, in Castelo Branco, 548 land were marked in Braga 532, in Viseu 491, in Bragança 394, in Aveiro 344, in Viana do Castelo 267, in Vila Real 244, in Setúbal 188, in Beja 187, Lisbon 182, Guarda 166 and in Faro 165.
In the Floresta Campaign Segura 2024, according to GNR, 7,237 awareness actions were carried out, which reached 115,568 citizens.
Last year, 10,256 signs were carried out and, “as regards the inspection, 2,233 records of offense due to lack of fuel management and 3,028 records of offense for other infractions were prepared.
This is the lowest number of fines due to lack of fuel management in the last six years.
According to information available on the Internet page of the previous years, in 2023 the case of offense due to lack of fuel management were 2,577, while in 2022 there were 2,271 records and in 2021 elaborated 3,176.
The highest number of records was registered in 2019, with 6,866.
Until November 30, “Guarda will promote various awareness and monitoring actions, surveillance, surveillance and detection of rural fires (IR), investigation of the causes of these fire crimes and validation of burning areas, with the aim of preventing, detecting, combating and repressing illicit activities, ensuring the safety of populations, their assets and the preservation of heritage. Forest ”, integrated into the Annual Floresta Segura campaign.
This campaign “reinforces preventive and repressive actions, promoting greater resilience to the territory in the face of fires, ensuring the safety of populations and sustainability of the national forest heritage”.
