Intercept operation of Brazil with 6.5 tons of cocaine

Action of Portugal and Spain holds 5 crew members on vessel, being the 1st Open Sea Interception

In a coordinated action between Portugal and Spain, a semi -compliant submarine carrying 6.5 tons of cocaine was intercepted in the Atlantic this Thursday (27.mar.2025). The operation took place over 3,000 kilometers from Lisbon and approximately 920 kilometers from the Azores.

The vessel, originating from the Brazilian coast to the Iberian Peninsula, had 5 crew members on board – 3 Brazilians, 1 Colombian and 1 Spanish, who were detained. It is the first interception of an open sea semi -submarine submarine, as reported by the Spanish.

The Nautilus mission was started after a warning from the Maritime Analysis and Operations Center, which involves 8 European Union and the United Kingdom countries. The Spain Civil Guard shared information about the approach of Narcesubmarino to Portugal, with the operation being supervised by the Central Department of Research and Criminal Action.
