Paris will offer Kiev an additional military assistance of about 2 billion euros, an estimated value, the French president announced tonight at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart.
“I can announce today (how) another two billion euros (will be allocated) for Ukraine’s military support,” Macron told a press conference with Zelenski in Paris. The new bunch of military aid includes, among other things, anti-tank missiles, ground-to-air missiles and unmanned aircraft.
He also said that it is “too early” to talk about lifting the sanctions imposed on Moscow after the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine, explaining that this would depend on Russia’s compliance with international law.
As for forces that many European countries are considering developing in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement, Macron assured that “they would not go to the front to fight”.
The French president criticized Russia for its stance on negotiations aimed at achieving a truce, stressing that the Kremlin could not dictate the conditions for a constant peace with Ukraine.
For his part, Ukraine President Volodimir Zelenski expressed the belief that the US can put strong pressure on Russia in order to accept an unconditional ceasefire, after Moscow has set terms to stop the hostilities in the Black Sea.
