Monarchics are out of AD (which will not be called democratic alliance)

Luís Montenegro and AD in the electoral night 2024

The name dies but not the acronym – thus gave Hugo Soares. Monarchics contest, and “go alone” to the legislatures. In the Azores, PPM remains in AD.

The PSD National Council unanimously approved the Pre-election coalition agreement with CDS-PP For the early May 18 legislatures in Madeira and the continent, leaving the monarchics who had integrated the AD (Democratic Alliance) in the legislatures and Europeans of 2024. This time, The PPM will only integrate the coalition in the Azores.

“The PPM does not integrate the coalition from the continent’s point of view because it was not possible to reach agreement with the PPM regarding the issue of places (…) I do not think we should question a political project for reasons of places in the lists and, therefore, the issue was resolved, ”he said.

Asked whether or not the coalition will be able to continue to call AD, the PSD secretary-general argued that “there is nothing that prevents the use of the AD nomenclature from the point of view of this candidacy.”

Refers to contestation of the monarchical leader, Gonçalo da Câmara Pereira, which already in 2024 after criticizing the use of the acronym without the presence of the PPM. This is because the acronym was used by the three parties in a coalition between 1979 and 1983.

And Câmara Pereira has already commented on the decision of the new AD: “The promises that made us were not avante, let’s go alone. We have no problems, we have no complexes.” But it leaves the issue of the acronym as a warning: “it would be an injustice and defraud the electorate” the use of the same name by the PSD-CDS coalition.

The monarchical leader has even sent a letter to the PSD, to which the public had access, where it is written that “they can call the now formalized coalition, whatever they want. You can’t call you ‘democratic covenant‘, insofar as AD is also a PPM political heritage. ”

Hugo Soares has already hinted that, to avoid problems, The name Democratic Alliance must be changed, But the acronym should keep up.

“In the coming days you will be informed what will be the name of the coalition That will be registered, but I just want that from a legal, formal, constitutional point of view there is no problem. (…) As the country knows, this is AD’s candidacy, we are AD, ”he said.

Hugo Soares took the opportunity to again differentiate the AD from the ADN partysaying that this confusion has lost “thousands and votes and some mandates in the country” in the last legislatures.

Asked if this will be a reason to change its name, insisted: “We will see in the coming days, the gentlemen can tell the country that today, the coalition between PSD and CDS has been approved and that AD is here to continue to transform Portugal.”
