The municipality of Portimão signed, on March 20, the consignment of the Requalification and Appreciation of the Garden of Fortaleza da Rocha Fortaleza, thus beginning a long -awaited work by the population.
The intervention was awarded to the company Master Natura – Green Space Management, under the public tender launched for this purpose. The main objective is to correct existing dysfunctions and revitalize the space, returning to the Garden of Fortaleza the reference status as a green zone of leisure and contemplation.
The project includes the recreation of iconic areas, such as the Miradouro over Arriba, the West, and the stay zone next to Fortaleza. The renewal of access and the introduction of contemporary elements, including corten steel guards, modern public lighting and new urban furniture, which will be carefully integrated with pre-existing elements such as walls, stairs and stone benches.
The vegetation will also be the target of a requalification, with the introduction of typical Mediterranean species and others that refer to the cultural landscape of the Algarve, always ensuring respect for the original garden character.
The Fortress Garden of Santa Catarina de Ribamar, one of the most emblematic spaces of Praia da Rocha, is known for its historical value, the landscape frame and the stunning views of the sea.
With an estimated period of execution of seven months, this work reaffirms “the commitment of the preservation and appreciation of this unique space, returning to the community and visitors a privileged place of contemplation and leisure”.
