In a hasty search for the robbers, the retired policeman fired against Thiago Marques Gonçalves, the motorcycle taxi driver, and Igor Melo de Carvalho, a student of journalism and publicity, believing they were those responsible for the crime.
Thiago Gonçalves was initially detained in the Benfica prison, but was released as soon as the confusion was clarified. On the other hand, Igor Melo, who is known for his sports coverage, especially from Botafogo, suffered serious injuries and had to be hospitalized. During Carnival, he was discharged, but not without significant sequelae, including the loss of part of some organs due to the shots that hit his abdomen.
The police investigation, which included testimonials of witnesses and image analysis, resulted in the indictment of Joselene Souza for false testimony. Police not only indicted, but also requested the arrest of Carlos Alberto de Jesus.
