Khartum is “free”, announced Sudan’s army chief and de facto head of the state Abdelfattah Burhan on Wednesday evening via TV from the heavily destroyed presidential palace. The RSF, the Rapid Support Forces by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemeti, confirmed its “repositioning” on Thursday, at least the center of the Sudanese capital and the airport are to be under control of the Sudanese army (SAF, Sudanese Armed Forces) after almost two years. The turnaround started around the beginning of the year when the SAF continued to register the strategically important city of Wad Madani in the south.
