The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), praised former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on Thursday (27), one day after the Supreme Court (STF) became the former modeler.
In a publication on social networks, Zema called Bolsonaro as the main opposition leadership to the Lula government. “The greatest opposition leader to the PT government is Jair Bolsonaro. I hope justice will be done and that he recovers his political rights,” he wrote on X (former Twitter).
The post was published while the governor discreetly participated in, Fuad Noman (PSD), who died on Wednesday (26) after respiratory complications. Zema remained recently at the scene and avoided talking to the press.
Behind the scenes, however, Zema cautiously evaluates the costs and benefits of a more explicit alliance with Bolsonaro, especially at a time when the former president is increasingly cornered by the court. In his second term, the miner is quoted as a potential name from the right to the 2026 presidential race, if Bolsonaro follows ineligible.
The gesture of support occurs amid a period of higher public exposure of Zema, which seeks to expand its national projection without breaking with more moderate sectors. Despite the nods, the Minas Gerais governor did not participate in the Pro-Anisty act to Bolsonaro in March, in Rio de Janeiro, but his presence is awaited at the demonstration scheduled for April 6, on Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo.
