A 30 -story building under construction collapsed this Friday in Bangkok and at least 43 workers were trappedafter one who shook the center of Burma (Myanmar), police and medical sources reported.
The skyscraper, located in the north of the Thai capital, was reduced to rubble in a few seconds after the strong tremor. Thai PBS public chain reported that there were around 50 people in the buildingbut seven of them managed to escape, while the rest were trapped.
Epicenter in Burma
The magnitude 7,7 earthquake shook the Northwest of Burma (Myanmar), according to the United States Geological Service, which measures seismic activity worldwide. The tremor was recorded at 12:50 Local Time (6:20 GMT) 10 kilometers deep and the epicenter stood about 17 kilometers from Mandalaythe second city of the Asian country with 1.2 million inhabitants, according to the US agency.
According to some witnesses to the medium Myanmar Now, parts of the Mandalay Historic Palace suffered serious damage while a bridge in the town of Sagaing It was completely destroyed. The effects of the earthquake were also felt in YAGAGOmain city of the country, where buildings were evacuated.
Burma is located near an area of High tectonic activity for the pressure between the Plate of the Indian subcontinent, to the south, and the Euroasy, to the north.
