A China will adopt firm contracted if the USA harm the country’s interests with their next reciprocal ratessaid a social media account affiliated with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV this Friday (28).
If the US wants to discuss cooperation with China, mutual respect is a prerequisite, the Yuyuantantian account said in a weibo post.
The comments were made after the China economy tsar, vice-master minister He Lifeng, and US commercial representative Jamieson Greer had “frank conversations” about commercial issues on a video call on Wednesday (26).
During the call, he expressed China’s “solemn concerns” regarding existing and proposed US tariffs and asked Washington to resolve the concerns on both sides, according to Chinese official news agency Xinhua.
After the meeting, US President Donald Trump told reporters that he would be willing to reduce rates on China to close an agreement with Bytedance, a Tiktok-controlling Chinese company, to sell the application used by 170 million Americans.
Trump should reveal his “reciprocal” tariffs designed to deal with commercial imbalances on April 2, potentially reaching Chinese products with additional tariffs.
Since taking office in January, Trump has imposed 20% rates on all Chinese imports, citing Beijing’s failure to contain the flow of Fentanil precursors.
The US also added dozens of Chinese entities to its export restriction list on Tuesday, further increasing the tensions with Beijing.
China reacted to US tariffs aiming at some US imports, including coal, liquefied natural gas and agricultural products, with rates of up to 15%.
