We all know the saying that one of the swallows does not make spring. We can take this seriously or not, but it is certain that we will be happy about the returning small vagrants. But do you know what this means as a result when the first swallows start circling over the house?
The first swallow, circling over our house, has a kind of poetics of the upcoming warmer and gentle days. We can finally expect real changes in the nature around us, we can look forward to the more so needed sunshine, which so well affects our psyche. In addition, we should be grateful for every swallow, because, like other creatures, are an integral part of the local ecosystem.

Why are swallows coming back right now? On the one hand, it is, of course, a prerequisite for warmer weather, but mainly it is a period when they can rely on enough livelihood – especially flying insects. Swallows are governed by natural laws and wisdom, so they would never return home before it is convenient for them. It could be stated that according to them we can adjust the imaginary natural clock.
It pays to host swallows
Some people are not particularly happy about swallows, especially if they decide to build a nest on their window or under the eaves. We will not insist that such guests will regularly clean up, but on the other hand, for our hospitality and tolerance, they will reward the liquidation of unpleasant insects.
They are diligent hunters
In order to have a clearer idea, it is necessary to realize that the only swallow will catch several hundred insects during the day. So imagine the whole swallow family and say: Isn’t it mutually advantageous?
A weather station from the nest
Can swallows bring us another bonus? But surely, we can basically use them as a live weather station. Surely you have ever noticed that there are days when swallows literally copy the terrain – first just above the roofs of houses, but with the progressing time they are getting closer to the Earth more and more. Why do they do it?
A simple natural law
The explanation is simple and logical – swallows fly at the same height as their food, ie insects. And because insects are very sensitive to air humidity changes (with increasing humidity flies below). But while few of us notice that the fly flies by the ground, it is difficult to overlook the swallow and immediately deduce that rain or even a storm is very likely to close.

Moreover, these creatures are very sensitive to general changes in nature, so – if regularly settled on your house, or at least in the area – you can be sure that you live in places that suit these small but very demanding migratory birds.
