Have you ever worked out that you put on a blouse just washed and felt that it would literally “stick” to your body? Or did you fold the sweater and have felt a light “discharge” of the electric current? This is a sign that your clothes are electrostatically charged. It is not only unpleasant, but often aesthetic – especially if the clothes are starting to stick or attract dust or small hair. Fortunately, there is a simple, cheap and brilliant way that can solve this problem completely. Just… aluminum foil.

What causes electrostatic charging of clothing?

Before we go to a solution, it is worth understanding where this problem comes from. Electrostatic charging of clothing is a physical phenomenon that occurs when materials with different electrical properties of friction against each other. This is most often done in washing and – especially – drying in the dryer. The electrostatic charges formed cause clothing to “adhere” to the skin, hair or other fabrics.

Synthetic materials such as polyester or acrylic are particularly susceptible to this phenomenon. Wool and silk can also be charged, albeit to a lesser extent. In winter, when the air is dry, the problem worsens – moisture acts antistatically, so its lack promotes the accumulation of charges.

Balls of aluminum foil – a simple trick from the kitchen

It turns out that in a great way for electrostatically charged clothes are… aluminum foil balls! Yes, the same thing you have in the kitchen drawer. It may seem strange, but it works – and really surprisingly well.

Aluminum foil leads electrical current and has electrostatic properties that help dispel the charges accumulating in the fabrics.

  • If you put a few foil balls in the washing machine or dryer, you will help “remove” the excess of electrons that would otherwise cause electrostatic charging of clothing.

As a result, clothes are not only charged, but often it is also softer, less chased and sometimes dries faster!

How to prepare balls?

Preparing balls from aluminum foil is very simple:

  1. Take a piece of aluminum foil with a length of approximately 1 meter.
  2. Gradually wrap the foil in the ball – the tight the better.
  3. The finished ball of the ping -pong ball size can be gently formed to make it stronger and more durable.
  4. Prepare 2-3 such balls (in a dryer) or 1-2 (in the washing machine).

You can use the balls repeatedly – even for several months, unless they fall apart or are not too thin.

Is it really safe and effective?

This question often arises, especially in connection with the insertion of metal objects into electrical equipment. Fortunately – if the aluminum foil is well compressed and does not have sharp edges – it is completely safe for a washing machine or dryer.

It is important not to use too many balls at once (3 are maximum) and check them regularly – if the ball begins to disintegrate, it is better to replace it.

If you are using a laundry dryer or you have a problem with electrostatically charged clothes, be sure to try it. It is a cheap, natural and very simple method. Of course-like any domestic method-it may not work in all cases, but for many people it is a real game-changer.
