Half of the non -entrepreneurial Brazilian adult population wants to start their own business within three years, which corresponds to about 47 million individuals aged 18 to 64.

The data are from the recent edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, a survey conducted by Sebrae in partnership with the National Association for Entrepreneurship Studies and Research (Annegepe).

The result puts Brazil as the second largest country in the world with potential entrepreneurs, behind only India, with 163 million people who want to be owned by their business, but has a population six times larger than the Brazilian.

The study stressed that, for the second year in a row, the main motivation of potential entrepreneurs is to “make a difference in the world”, followed by “earning life because jobs are scarce” and “build very high wealth/income”.

In addition, the survey also pointed out that “having its own business” occupies the third position among the most cited dreams by 34% of the adult population interviewed, surpassed only by “buying their own home” and “traveling around Brazil”.

“Empowering is a Brazilian dream and research makes it clear. The logic of work has been changing over the years. Today, people prefer to have their own business and not be subjected to the traditional work process,” says Décio Lima, president of Sebrae.

“For this dream to gain land, it is necessary that before there is a range of public policies, to ensure its survival.”

Décio also added that the environment favorable to business growth depends largely on state action and the implementation of effective public policies.

“It is the cooperation between the state and the private sector that generates the economic development of the country. And the combination of effective government policies combined with entrepreneurship drives economic growth and prosperous businesses,” he said.
