The Network of Black Journalists for Diversity in Communication launched, on Thursday (27), the “Manual of Good Anti-Racist Practices for Digital Communication”, to help communication professionals adopt inclusive, anti-racist and responsible practices in their productions.

The material, which is free and can be downloaded in PDF format, was developed in partnership with the Institute of Black Reference Peregum and with the support of institutions such as FENAJ (National Federation of Journalists) and the UNESCO chair of communication.

The authorship is, journalist and coordinator of Rede JP, and editor of AFP (Agência France Press) and columnist for Sheet.

Denise says that the ebook is an easily accessible material that gathers information on topics related to social justice.

“I think of people coming to now, influencers and journalists who are not familiar with diversity topics, but they need to write about it. How do you? There are so many concepts, so many discussions, and we have little time,” he says.

According to her, the theme requires previous knowledge and reading. Therefore, the manual presents a summary of the main discussions related to racial debate with accessible language.

The material also has entries explaining terms such as “”, “”, “,” intersectionality “,” decoloniality “and” “. With this, production can be used as a kind of dictionary, to be consulted to answer questions and refresh the memory.

At the end of the manual, there is a bibliography with all the authors mentioned to invite the reader to broaden their knowledge. “The idea is to be a gateway,” he explains.

The authors recognize that the launch happens as racial discussions are under attack.

“We have been developing this project for over a year and, as things were happening, we realized that there is no better time for the launch of what now,” says Denise. “We need to get out of racial earthlass to talk again in a informed way, based on solid concepts.”

They updated parts of the material and were able to include the early days of Donald Trump’s government and the revocation of US diversity programs in the introduction of the ebook. For Denise, in addition to promoting an informed debate, the material contributes to the fight against misinformation.

“This material is not only for those who work with journalism, but for those who work with communication. We seek to amplify this conversation with good practices in the digital universe, which also reverberates in the offline environment,” says Marcelle.

The material features tools and tips for anti -racist communication. Actions such as diversifying sources and content, contextualizing the facts and evaluating what message is being passed are some of the suggestions.

At the launch event in São Paulo, there was a debate with the participation of journalists Lívia Lima, co -founder of the Mural Agency and Nodes, Women of the Periphery, Pedro Borges, co -founder of the Alma Preta Portal, Cíntia Gomes, Institutional Director and Cofunder of the Mural Agency, Veronica Lima, Ajor Communication Coordinator, and, editor of diversity and secretary of writing of writing Sheet.

They discussed topics such as changes in the digital scenario, good practices for anti -racist communication, digital representativeness and strategies for promoting social justice.

The meeting was also marked by the launch of Griomech, created by the Black Peregum Reference Institute in partnership with Mozilla Foundation.

Inspired by the role of griot for African cultures, the project aims to promote digital equity and racial justice in the digital ecosystem, expanding the participation of historically excluded populations in the debates on regulation of algorithmic transparency and combating misinformation.
