The United States and other major donors reduced WFP funding, which worsens the global food crisis.
The World Food Program (WFP) warned against the “unprecedented crisis” on Friday, as this year has to cope with a decline in funds by 40 percent. According to the organization, this threatens a vital help for 58 million people. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
Despite the generosity of many governments and individuals, WFP is experiencing a sharp decline in funding from all its main donors.
“The severity of these cuts, along with a record number of people in need, has led to an unprecedented crisis for tens of millions of people around the world who are dependent on food aid,” the UN added.
Until recently, the biggest donor of WFP has been the United States, but since January’s advent of President Donald Trump, the US has significantly reduced the funding of the agency. Financial assistance has also been reduced by other countries, including Germany, the second largest donor, and the United Kingdom, which is currently increasing defense spending. WFP warned on Thursday that in the Gaza Strip, where he said “hundreds of thousands of people” are in danger of serious hunger and malnutrition, food remains for only two weeks.
