The White House on Thursday withdrew the nomination of the Republican Congressman Elise Stefanik, as a US permanent representative in the United Nations (UN). President Donald Trump said the decision is related to the effort to preserve the close Republican majority in the House of Representatives, TASR reports.

Trump confirmed the decision on Thursday in his post on his Truth. He stated that it was essential that the Republicans in the congress keep every chair.

Republican unity

“We must be united to meet our mission and Elise Stefanik has been an important part of our efforts from the beginning. I asked Elise as one of my closest allies to stay in the congress,” the president wrote.

According to NBC, a hard blow to Stefanik, who is considered Trump’s leading supporter and the rising star of the Republican Party. Trump announced her nomination for the post of Ambassador to the UN shortly after his election and in January Stefanikova heard the Senate Committee in this context. In the end, the Senate did not vote on its nomination.

According to NBC, Stefanik’s departure for the Embassy’s position could complicate the promotion of Trump’s agenda in Congress. The Republicans have a minimum of 238 votes in the 435-member House of Representatives.
