Young workers go to the street for a national demonstration

This Friday afternoon is scheduled for a national demonstration of young workers in Lisbon. They ask for a decent career and salaries suitable for increased cost of living. This morning about 70 people left Porto to join concentration in the capital.

Inês Sousa is 24 years old, a degree and two works. It is just the portrait of a young woman that struggles for better living conditions. Emigrating is not out of hypotheses taking into account the personal and financial effort that makes every month.

“Our situation is currently a lot of precariousness. I can talk about my personal case where, at this moment, I have two jobs and sometimes we do not know if it is enough to try to get something. Every year we have to say goodbye to friends looking for better living conditions in other European countries and sometimes we can cross the border and come across a completely different reality,” explains Inês Sousa, young worker

The trip to already destined for Lisbon to join other young women who are going through the same.

“Today is expected, as in other times of struggle, another statement of young workers. There are many challenges we face daily. The deregulation of schedules, precarious work, the short time we have to live and to be able to reconcile our work with personal and family life,” says Beatriz Pinto, unionist.

The manifestation of young workers was convened by CGTP-in. It is scheduled for 15:00 at Praça da Figueira, in Lisbon
