The Boconist Deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR) chaired, on Wednesday (26), his first session at the head of the House Foreign Relations and National Defense Commission with strong waves to (PL-SP), which last week on the grounds that he was being chased by the Supreme Court (STF).
The main item voted in the collegiate was a motion of praise to Eduardo, “in recognition of his firm and courageous performance in the representation of Brazil before international organizations and foreign authorities.”
The application is symbolic, but it generated a strong clash among pockets and allies of the Lula government (PT). While one of the authors of the proposal, Deputy Zucco (PL-RS), said Eduardo deserved applause for “fighting the state of exception that was installed in Brazil,” petista Alencar Santana (SP) claimed that former President Jair Bolsonaro’s son was a “traitor of the homeland.”
The proposal was approved by 22 votes to 9.
Another item approved by the collegiate was an invitation to hold a public hearing with Michael Benz, a former US Department of the United States Department that has often been quoted by Eduardo on his accusations that USAID (United States for International Development).
Quoting Benz, Eduardo has stated if, any evidence that Brazilian organizations would have received money from the agency to influence the 2022 elections. The organizations cited by Eduardo deny the accusation.
On Tuesday (25), Filipe Barros told the Sheet that the Lula government should be concerned about its presidency at the head of the commission. Barros took office at the Foreign Relations Commission last Wednesday (19).
Initially, the PL had nominated Eduardo to the post, following a request from his own. On March 18, however, the parliamentarian said he made the “hardest” decision of his life and announced that he would remain abroad because he feared being arrested by Alexandre de Moraes, STF minister.
One of Eduardo’s declared goals in the US is to try to convince Donald Trump government to apply sanctions against STF ministers, especially Moraes.
“The diplomatic line of foreign policy that the government has adopted since its inception is not the line that my party and I, the PL, agree. So every time we understand it necessary to make a counterpoint to the Federal Government’s foreign policy, we will do,” Barros said on Tuesday.
“The luggage that Eduardo can bring and help us is great. Of course, I keep direct contact, I represent my party here in the presidency of the commission. So there is, in fact, an alignment of me, from Eduardo, with the party.”
In listing the priority themes he intends to deal with, Barros defended in the interview items defended by Eduardo and other exponents from the right. He said he wanted to discuss “purchases of Brazilian strategic assets from other countries” and the role of international NGOs in the country.
Regarding his view of foreign policy, he said that Lula made a mistake by publicly supported the defeated candidate in the US Kamala Harris and having criticized Trump.
