More than 1,000 people died in Myanmar (formerly Burma) as a result of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in the center of the country this Friday.

The earthquake occurred at 12:50 pm (6:20 am in Lisbon), at a depth of 10 kilometers (km), with andPicenter located about 17 km from Mandalayaccording to the United States Geological Service (USGS), which measures seismic activity around the world.
Mandalay is Myanmar’s second largest city with 1.2 million inhabitants, and 270 km north of the capital, Naypyidaw.
At least 10 dead in Thailand
