To “Folha de S. Paulo”, Andrii Sibiha stated that the country seeks support to convince Moscow to accept ceasefire
Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiha highlighted in an interview with Brazil’s influence on peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. The chancellor mentioned the possibility of Brazil to help convince Moscow to accept security guarantees for an effective ceasefire.
Sibiha reproired the importance of diplomacy and mentioned the possibility of involvement of Chinese and Brazilian peace forces to monitor the ceasefire. However, it emphasized the need for real security guarantees, including the presence of foreign military forces.
Ukraine seeks the support of European countries to monitor compliance with the terms of a possible truce, while Russia opposes the presence of European troops in its territory. The interview reveals a tone change in relation to the Ukrainian President’s previous statements, Volodimir Zelensky, who had expressed skepticism about Brazil’s role in negotiations.
The chancellor also reiterated that no commitment that affects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine will be accepted. He talked about the importance of increasing the cost to Russia of future aggression against Ukraine and the need for an effective mechanism to monitor ceasefire.
In addition, the minister pointed to the importance of air defense and the drone industry, areas in which Ukraine seeks to become more self -sufficient with the support of its partners. He suggested that cooperation with Brazil in drone technology could be beneficial for both countries, not only for military purposes, but also in agriculture.
