International teams intensified efforts to find earthquakes in the country

International rescue teams intensified efforts to locate more than 300 people who are still missing in Myanmar after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the country on Friday (28.mar.2025). To date, 1,700 dead and 3,400 injured have been counted.

The difficulty in redemptions of the buried worse is even more because of the civil war in the country. The conflict, intensified after a coup d’état in 2021, has impaired the access of relief teams to the affected areas.

The ruler of Myanmar requested international humanitarian aid in a movement considered “Down” by the international press. According to BBCat least 9 countries and one administrative region attended the call:

  • China (team of 82 people sent on Saturday (29.mar);
  • Hong Kong (51 rescuers, including search and rescue dogs);
  • India (search and rescue teams, hygiene kits, blankets and food);
  • Malaysia (sending 50 agents to support humanitarian operations);
  • Filipinas;
  • Vietnam;
  • Indonesia;
  • Ireland;
  • South Korea;
  • New Zealand.

According to the UN, there are blocked roads and shortages of medical supplies. OCHA (United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs Coordination) said on Saturday (29.Mar) that health professionals operate with lack of trauma kits, blood bags, anesthetics, essential medicines and tents.

EARTHQUAKE

The epicenter of the phenomenon was approximately 16 km from Mandalay, the 2nd largest city of Myanmar, with a population of over 1.2 million.

According to BBCanother 2 magnitude 6.4 and 5.1 tremors were felt after the 1st earthquake – the last one was on Sunday. The Mianmar Military Government decreed a state of emergency in 6 regions and states.

The situation gets worse because of the civil war in the country. The conflict, intensified after a coup d’état in 2021, has impaired the access of relief teams to the affected areas.

Natural disaster was also felt in Thailand. The country has reported 18 deaths and 33 injured so far in the city of Bangkok. Eleven victims died from the fall of a skyscraper. Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said a state of emergency in the capital.
