A 7 -degree magnitude on the Richter scale was reported today on the Tonga islands, according to the German Geoptivity Research Center (GFZ).
The American Geological Institute spoke of an earthquake of 7.1 degrees.
The GFZ initially conveyed that the earthquake was 6.6 degrees but then revised. Its focal depth was 16 kilometers and not 10, as initially announced.

Tsunami risk
Dangerous waves as a result of the earthquake are likely to be caused within 300 kilometers from the focus along the shores of Tonga, the US tsunami warning system announced.
The Tona Islands are a Kingdom that belongs to Polynesia and consists of more than 170 islands of the South Pacific.
