Khalil al-Hayya, leader of the Hamas negotiating team, said he hoped Israel “Don’t compromise” to proposal. “Two days ago we received a proposal from mediators in Egypt and Qatar. We deal with it positively and accept it”Hayya said in a televised speech.

According to ReutersSources linked to security revealed on Thursday (28.mar) that Egyptian authorities received favorable signs from Israel in relation to the new ceasefire plan, which would include a transitional period. According to these sources, the proposal provides for the weekly release of 5 Israeli hostages maintained by the Palestinian group.

Also according to the agency, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office confirmed that he had held several meetings to evaluate the proposal received by international mediators. The Israeli government has sent a counter -proposal, prepared in close collaboration with the United States.

The 1st phase of the ceasefire, which began on January 19, involved the stoppage of combat and the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The 2nd phase would focus on the release of the remaining hostages and the withdrawal of the Israeli troops from Gaza. Hamas insists on the implementation of the 2nd phase, while Israel proposes to expand the first phase of 42 days.

In response to the calls of Israel and the United States for Hamas Disarmament, Hayya said the group’s arsenal is a “Red Line ”. “We will not disarm as long as the Israeli occupation exists”, stated.

The Israeli military continued the attacks on Gaza on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 Palestinians, according to local health officials. The Israeli Army began land operations in the JNeina neighborhood of Rafah to expand the safety zone in southern Gaza.
