‘Drew is not enjoying a well -deserved retirement, but fighting for his life,’ said the artist’s wife, responsible for posters of productions such as ‘Star Wars’, ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Et – The Extraterrestrial’
Drew Struzan, renowned illustrator of film posters, such as, Indiana Jones And, it can no longer draw due to the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. The information was released by his wife, Dylan Struzan, in a social media publication last Wednesday (26). “Drew is not enjoying a deserved retirement, but fighting for his life,” Dylan wrote on the artist’s official Instagram profile.
According to her, Struzan was diagnosed with a few years ago, and the initial symptoms included gradual loss of memory. With the advancement of the disease, he started to face difficulties in performing everyday tasks, such as maintaining balance, walking and speaking. Dylan pointed out that her husband tried several treatments to slow the progression of the disease and that, even in the face of difficulties, he finds comfort in fan support messages. “He hears all the comments he has left on his pages. It encourages him,” he said.
The artist’s wife also stressed the impact of the legacy left by Struzan. “His intention has always been to make the world a better place through his art. But, like a flower, his season is coming to an end,” he lamented.
Drew Struzan is one of the most influential illustrators in the history of cinema, responsible for iconic posters of productions such as Back to the Future, ET – The Extraterrestrial, Os Muppets, Abracadabra e Dundee crocodile. His art marked generations and continues to be a reference in the cinematic universe.
