On December 31, 2023, a woman denounces, to the security guards of the site, the former player for raping her in the bathroom of the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona that night.
Two days later, she reinforces her first statement on a police station. After listening to the victim, the police prepared the arrest request for Daniel Alves, who was returning from Mexico, where he played, to the mother -in -law’s funeral.

In November, the Public Prosecutor of Spain requested nine years in prison for the former player, in addition to the payment of the fine. At the time, the victim’s defense asked the penalty to 12 years to be increased.
The trial took place on February 5, 6 and 7, 2024. On the last day, the prosecutor argued that the victim’s version was the most credible and that Alves changed the statement several times. On February 22, he was sentenced to serve four and a half years in prison and pay the compensation of 150 thousand euros. In addition, he would be supervised for another five years and could not have employment, office or trade with minors, and is forced to keep at least one kilometer away from the victim and have no contact with her for nine and a half years.
In March 2024, Daniel Alves got provisional freedom. He currently lives in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.
