The Supreme Court is blocking the dismissal of Ronen Bar, but Netanyahu has already announced his successor Eli Sarvit.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed new director of counter -intelligence Shin Bet’s former commander of the Navy Eli Skarvit, the Office of the Prime Minister said on Monday. This happened, despite the fact that the Supreme Court blocked the government’s decision to dismiss the current chief Šin Bet, TASR writes, according to the AFP report.

“After extensive interviews with seven qualified candidates, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to appoint former naval commander, Admiral in reserve Eli Šarvit, for the future director Šin Bet,” he said in the statement of the Prime Minister.

According to the Office, Sarvit served in the army for 36 years, five years of which as the commander of the Navy. “In this function, he built the forces of marine defense of territorial waters and led comprehensive operations against (militant movements) Hamas and Hezbollah and Iran,” the statement said.

The Israeli government dismissed the director of counterintelligence Ronen Bara at night on 21 March for a “persistent lack of confidence”. The opposition parties challenged this decision at the Supreme Court that blocked the decision on the appeal. According to the court, the blocking will remain in force until the appeals are submitted, but no later than 8 April. Netanyahu accused Bara of conducting an investigation into the far right -wing Minister of internal security, ITamar Ben Gvira without his consent.

In response to the report that the bar spent months, he spent a secret investigation into the suspicion of infiltration of people close to the far right to the police and their link to Ben Gvira, Netanyahu’s office denied in his statement that Prime Minister would commission Bara to collect evidence against the Minister.

Ronen Bar for the post of boss Shin Bet joined in October 2021. It was appointed by the previous government. Its term of office should have been initially ended next year.
