Ukraine and its allies are closely monitoring the situation in the Black Sea using a wide range of technical tools, including satellite, surface, aerial and submarine surveillance systems, said the spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Mr. Pretchuk.
“Our sailors and other branches of the army are using various tools to monitor activity on the surface, underwater and air,” he said. Pletenchuk emphasized that the Black Sea is not just an issue between Ukraine and Russia, the media reported .
“The Black Sea also limits with four other countries, three of which are NATO members,” he recalled. “Everyone has advanced monitoring systems that allow complete knowledge of the situation, and everything is carried out within the framework of international law,” he said.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy added that there are no technical limitations to monitor the high fire in the Black Sea. “This is not a great mass of water. It is perfectly possible to monitor compliance with the high fire,” he said. “That could include naval resources, air surveillance (there are constantly present aircraft on the Black Sea) and satellite monitoring. In fact, we have a fairly wide set of tools,” he said.
Russia and Ukraine agreed last week, next to the United States, to guarantee a “safe and clean navigation” in the Black Sea, after the parallel conversations they held in Riad (Saudi Arabia), as announced by the White House.
According to the statement, disseminated by the Reuters, kyiv and Washington agency agreed to guarantee “a safe navigation, eliminate the use of force and prevent the use of commercial ships for military purposes in the Black Sea.”
