In Paris, Haddad highlights convergence with France for Taxation of Super Rica

“In the defense of the taxation of the super rich, a moral imperative in the face of the advance of oligarchies within democracies, France and Brazil have shown the path of North-South Coordination that can help the international system leave the impasse,” said the minister.

“Without the support of intellectuals such as Gabriel Zucman and Esther Duflo, the first step towards coordinated super rich taxation would not have been achieved with the International Tax Cooperation Declaration and the final document of the Rio G20 summit last November. We hope to be able to reprint this Franco-Brazilian partnership in COP with other flags,” he said.

During his initial speech, Haddad estimated that the timing of the invitation to speak on Monday at the event in Paris could not be better.

According to him, the world has changed a lot since the G20 summit and goes through a moment of inflection on the role and global position of Latin America and Europe. “It is in this context that Brazil prepares for COP30,” he said.

He also reiterated the importance of bringing finances to the “heart of debate” about the climate and said that COP30 will enter history as the “implementation COP” – given the potential that Brazil has to lead by example, promoting an inclusive climate schedule focused on implementing concrete solutions.
