Are your doors and doorframes quality and impenetrable? Do you rely on an alarm or an old trick of locksmiths? Leaving the keys in the lock has its pros and cons.
Selecting a security lock
If you do not have a neighbor from behind the curtains overseeing your entrance door, it will be preferable to slap through the pocket and secure the entrance.
The correct security of the entrance door begins with their quality. Ideal are doors with solid construction, preferably with steel core, which can withstand attempts to violent intrusion. Equally important is the solid and properly anchored doorframe to prevent the door from spreading or prying.
The safety lock is another key element. It is recommended to use a cylindrical liner at least in the 3rd or 4th. A safety class, which is resistant to drilling, breaking or fiddle with a foil. Quality fittings, which protect the lock from mechanical damage and prevent it from drilling or ecstatic, although something costs, but it is definitely not an unnecessary investment.
Another option is to install additional elements such as safety barriers or door chains, which are also protection of a person inside if the incoming conquers in the apartment through the owner’s disagreement.
You can also easily buy an alarm that will be encoded when the door or windows can be opened or the movement in the room is opened. These systems can even be simple for batteries and self -installation options. Their quality is worse than professional facilities, but they can still help discourage an uninvited visitor.
Castle Key: Good or bad idea?
One of the recommendations of the experts is to leave the key in the castle from the inside. This method prevents the key inserting from the outside and prevents the use of foil or other instruments that a handy locksmith can open, but also the thief to open the door.
On the other hand, the thief can stick the key out of the castle and then pull it from under the door. However, in this case, the entire entrance door would have to be replaced, because it is one of the older models.
The trick is not suitable for the doors of glass or those where strangers often move and can simply get the keys to the house in this way.
Professional thieves also have at least two methods to completely draw the key in the lock on the other side of the door and then turn it. So the key in the castle can discourage less experienced thieves, but the seasoned certainly will not stop.
Another risk is a situation where you inadvertently run the door. If the key from the other side is in the lock, nor will the replacement key help and you will have to call a locksmith. This is not only time consuming, but also pay extra for the accelerated arrival of your locksmith.
