Paraguayan chancellor Rubén Ramírez says he has “tranquility” that confidential information is protected
Paraguay declared this Monday (31.mar.2025) no evidence of attempts to from Brazil for confidential information. Paraguayan chancellor Rubén Ramírez said he had “tranquility” about the protection of the country’s administrative information.
“We have the tranquility that the information we manage within the structure of our international negotiations is safeguarded”said Ramírez.
The suspicion was raised after the UOL Publishing a report stating that Brazil tried to hack the Paraguayan government account. The goal would be to achieve information on energy tariffs produced by the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, whose management is divided by countries.
The chancellor also mentioned that trade and tariff relations with Brazil are established by 2027 and are satisfactory for both countries. This includes agreements on Annex C of the Itaipu Treaty.
Ramírez reiterated the order and security with which Paraguay is addressing the protection of their information. He highlighted institutional and official communication as the basis for diplomatic relations with Brazil.
The chancellor stated that the country’s intelligence agencies are talking and that it was informed that “There will be a clarification from Brazil ”. According to him, the alleged invasion is under investigation of the Paraguayan organs.
Planalto said the operation was authorized by the previous management under the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), and overthrown by the interim director of the agency already under the mandate of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).
Ramírez acknowledged that Paraguay is constantly cyber attacks and that Paraguayan intelligence is always acting, with cooperation mainly from the US and Taiwan.
“We suffer many attacks. The source of these attacks was sometimes identified, but they could not penetrate our systems.”said the chancellor.
