Poland and the United States signed an intergovernmental agreement of nearly $ 2 billion on the logistics and technical support of Patriot air defense systems, which Polish armed forces gained within the VISLA program. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who participated in the signature with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, said this on Monday’s briefing on Monday, informs TASR referring to Reuters and TVN24 television.

“The question of alliances, security, Polish -American cooperation, NATO stability – all this is not an abstraction for us, these are important things for us. We prove our commitment by billions of dollars and euros that we invest in our security,” Vyhlásil Kosiniak-Kamysz after Dohody’s signature.

According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the implementation of the agreement will ensure the operational readiness of the launchers of the Patriot system so that they can, among other things, to destroy short -range missiles, including maneuverable shots.

“If we commit to invest a huge amount of money – our money, the money of Poland citizens – to security, we do this because we know it is the safety of the whole West, of the whole North Atlantic Alliance. Let Poland’s loyalty be an example for all, on both sides of the Atlantic, ”said Tusk.

In 2018, Poland won the first two batteries of the Patriot from the United States in 2018. After the invasion of Russian forces in Ukraine in February 2022, Poland began to invest massively in its defense.

The government announced that in 2024 it would spend 4.1 percent of the gross domestic product in defense, the most of the NATO Member States, committing it to increase this share to 4.7 percent in 2025.

Polish President Andrzej Duda suggested that the institute be anchored in the Constitution that the country will earn at least four percent of GDP for defense spending.
