The Wrexham soccer club reported record financial results in its first year back to EFL (English Football League), in the latest chapter in the success story under the Hollywood owners and actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney.
Wrexham’s annual report released on Monday (31) for season 2023/24 showed a revenue of £ 26.7 million ($ 34.5 million; $ 198 million), a growth of 155% over the previous year.
The report showed the level of global interest in the northern club of Wales, with the geographical division of revenues indicating that 52.1% was generated outside the UK, especially in North America, an increase over 24.6% in 2023. This was partly due to the success of the TV documentary “Welcome to Wrexham”.
Wrexham is now second in the League One classification, on their way to the promotion for Championship, a level they last reached in 1982. It would be the third consecutive season of promotion for the club that left EFL in 2008.
Of the 26.7 million pounds of revenues in 2023/24, commercial revenue increased to almost 13.2 million (US $ 17 million; R $ 97.6 million), a massive increase over 1.9 million (US $ 2.5 million; R $ 14.3 million) in the previous year.
The revenue of days of play rose to about £ 5 million ($ 6.4 million; $ 36.7 million), from 3.1 million ($ 4 million; $ 23 million) in 2023.
Wrexham’s women’s team reached the FAW Cup final and reached the league Championship phase, with the players becoming semi-professional for the first time.
