From immigration to LGBT+ rights: Trump returns to the White House with "shock and awe" executive orders

Several employees and organs of the Democratic Party filed a lawsuit on Monday in a federal court in Washington against what they describe as “a danger to US democracy”

The Democratic opposition of the United States filed a judicial complaint against President Donald Trump’s presidential decree on the electoral system, accusing him of abuse of power and rewriting the rules “in his favor.”

In a rare front united since the return of the Republican leader to the White House in January, several employees and organs of the Democratic Party filed a lawsuit in a federal court in Washington against what they describe as “a danger to US democracy.”

In the complaint, the subscribers report a decree signed by Donald Trump that aims to profoundly reform the electoral system, in particular the very popular postal vote organization in the United States.

Some states, which generate federal elections, allow the voting newsletters that arrive after election day are counted if they have been placed before the ballot box.

This flexibility does not appeal to the Republican President, who never recognized his defeat in the 2020 presidential elections against Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump denounced, without foundation, the existence of an electoral fraud, fed, according to him, by postal vote.

The order also requires a mandatory proof of US citizenship, as a passport, when registered to vote.

The Democrats also accused Donald Trump and his Government Efficiency Department (Doge), led by the Magnata Elon Musk, to want to “rationalize their conspiracy theories” and “prepare the terrain to nullify the legal votes and ignore the electoral results that do not convene.”

Two other pro -democracy groups – CAMPAIGN LEGAL CENTER (CLC) and State Democracy Defenders Fund (SDDF) – presented separate lawsuits against the same executive order.

“Perhaps some people think I shouldn’t complain about me because we won for an overwhelming margin [nas eleições presidenciais de novembro de 2024]But we have to repair our electoral system, “Donald Trump argued by signing the executive order last Tuesday.
