ANEEL advance renewal of EDP Espírito Santo

The (National Electric Energy Agency) postponed this Thursday (1st.ab.2025) the process that dealt with the renewal of the concession of the energy distributor for another 30 years. The company is the 1st of one of 19 distributors with contracts winning between 2025 and 2031 seeking to have their concessions renewed by the agency.

The theme was in the hands of the superintendent of concessions, permissions and authorizations of electricity services, whose opinion is favorable to renewal. This is a (PDF – 331 kb). However, the director asked for a view of the process, without presenting arguments for the decision.

According to the rapporteur, the concessionaire met the required technical criteria, including:

  • Operational Efficiency: FEC Indexes (frequency of interruptions) and DEC (Duration of interruptions) within regulatory limits;
  • Fiscal and Labor Regularity: Certificates proved the company’s compliance with current rules; and
  • Economic-Financial Qualification: Evaluation demonstrated the company’s sustainability to maintain its operations.

The current contract wins on July 17 this year. If Aneel takes advantage of the renewal at another time, the (Ministry of Mines and Energy) will have 30 days to decide on renewal and summon companies to sign the new contracts. Distributors will then have 60 days to formalize adjustments to contracts.
