Brazil registered 2,357 fire outbreaks in March 2025, a 56.8% drop over the same period last year, when 5,448 such occurrences were recorded.

The Amazon concentrates the largest portion of the fire outbreaks, with 772 – or 32.8%. Data are from the system of (National Institute for Space Research).

Mato Grosso is the state with the largest number of burning, with 429 outbreaks registered in the last month. It is followed by Roraima (390) and Bahia (342).

The 6 Brazilian biomes recorded the incidence of fire. The Cerrado had the 2nd largest number, with 691 outbreaks –29.3% of the total.

From January 1st to March 31, 2025, the country has 7,313 outbreaks of fire.

Brazil the year 2024 with 278,299 fire outbreaks – an increase of 46.5% compared to 2023, when 189,901 were recorded.

The amount of fires in 2024 was the highest since 2010. In the historical series, 2007 remains the worst.

The area devastated by burning in Brazil 79% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to data from Mapbiomas. 30,867,676 hectares last year were burned – an area larger than the entire territory of Italy.
