Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron announced at the end of the Paris summit of Ukraine that there will be a European security force in the country in case of peace.
The force will be ensured by “several European countries,” said Macron, quoted by the French agency AFP, without specifying which countries can participate.
According to Macron, it is not a peace maintenance force, nor forces present in the front lines, nor forces that replace the Ukrainian army.
These are forces that “will subscribe to long-term support and which will function as deterrent to potential Russian aggression,” he said.
The French president said he expected the US support for sending a European force, but also wants to prepare for a scenario without Washington.
