The president of United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30)ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, said on Monday (31) that the capture of U $ 1.3 trillion to finance COP30 in Belém will not be arcada by “Developed countries”.

“There is a big debate about what these features are, how you define what climate financing would be,” the president said in an interview with TV Cultura’s Roda Viva program.

“Of course when we talk about In $ 1,3 Threeand we talk about $ 1.3 tri from 2035, It is a value that will not come out of the pocket or budget of developed countries to go to developing countries. ”

The financing of US $ 1.3 trillion arises from an agreement between the governments of Brazil and Azerbaijan – which hosted the last edition of the conference in 2024 in Baku – to support developing countries in the midst of the climate crisis.

“But it is a value that was indicated as necessary by a group of very good economists, who presented a report that this would be a necessary value for developing countries to continue to develop taking into account climate change,” he adds.

He acknowledged that the amount to be captured is a “reasonable challenge”, and that even the $ 100 billion that the developed nations said they had three of the five years, stipulated between 2020 and 2025, was contested by analysts.

For the fundraising to take place, Corrêa do Lago points out that a structured report with support from the Ministry of Finance will be produced in partnership with the Azerbaijanian government. Only after that will it be negotiated with the developed nations.

Also in an interview, the ambassador mentioned ideas parallel to traditional climate financing. Some of them, he says, would be developed by groups that study oil and aviation taxation, for example, “so that it is not just a direct transfer of developed countries to developing countries.”

“All these movements are opening certain ways that we are exploring to see how we could reach 1.3[trilliondollars”saidAndréCorrêadoLago[trilhõesdedólares”disseAndréCorrêadoLago
